We are pleased to announce the publication of our paper, “Computational Design and Fabrication of Platonic Kusudama,“ at BRIDGES 2026. The Bridges Organization fosters research, practice, and new interest in mathematical connections to art, music, architecture, and culture.
Led by recently graduated B.Arch student Andrew Julian Wang, the paper presents the development of a parametric visual programming script for the design and digital fabrication of kusudama origami objects from Platonic solids. The script generates modular surface patterns from Platonic solids, then produces geometry for digital fabrication. The workflow translates three-dimensional polyhedral geometry into two-dimensional cutting and etching curves suitable for laser-cut production.
