New Book – Critical Computational Relations in Design, Architecture and the Built Environment

December 2024 – I am excited to share the publication of “Critical Computational Relations in Design, Architecture and the Built Environment,” a book project I had the privilege of co-editing with the brilliant Dr. Yana Boeva. This book represents a collaborative effort to bring together diverse perspectives on the power relations between computational practices, technology infrastructures, knowledge, and their reproductions of bias in design at multiple scales. Writing the introduction with Dr. Boeva was a pure intellectual joy. The book provides critical perspectives and insights on how computation intersects with architecture, design, the built environment, and society.

Featuring contributions from 11 outstanding scholars, practitioners, and researchers, “Critical Computational Relations” explores computational practices, tools, and methods and how they mask social, political, and environmental entanglements. Our goal was to create a resource that not only informs but also inspires conversations and new ideas in computational design, architecture, and science and technology studies (sts).

Working with Dr. Boeva and our incredible contributors has been an honor. I’m deeply grateful for the insights, expertise, and dedication that shaped this publication – first as a Special Issue for Digital Creativity (2023), and now as an edited book for greater reach. Thanks to Routledge for helping bring this vision to life! We would be so grateful if you spread the word and ask your university libraries to order the book.
